Lead Junkie

Google

Google Local Services Ads for HVAC contractors

LSA can put HVAC contractors at the top of search with a Google Badge. It cannot fix a shop that doesn’t answer, a thin review profile, or a service area you don’t actually run. If someone sold you LSA as a magic switch, they sold you a story — not a system.

I grew an electric and HVAC shop with my own marketing spend. Real tests, not theory. How Lead Junkie got built.

What has to be true before you turn LSA on

I’m Joey Donohue. I taught myself digital marketing and spent $750k of my own money growing an HVAC and electric shop from about $2.1M to $7M. Lead Junkie exists because I learned — the hard way — that a channel is only as good as the shop that catches the lead.

License and insurance as Google asks. Reviews you actually earned. A phone process that can take the lead the same day. Categories that match jobs you want to book. Geo you can cover without wrecking drive time. If those aren’t true, search campaigns or fixing the site may come first. I’m not going to pretend every HVAC shop should turn LSA on this week.

  • Google Screened / Guaranteed path requirements you can honestly meet
  • Review velocity and responses — not a ghost profile
  • CSR or owner who picks up (or text-back that actually happens)
  • Service area honesty — don’t buy leads you will reject all day

LSA bills for leads. Voicemail still loses the job.

You pay when Google sends the lead. If that lead hits voicemail at 6:12pm in July, you paid Google to educate your competitor. Fix speed-to-lead and missed-call text-back before you scale the LSA budget.

LSA also does not replace a website that explains what you do. The badge gets attention. The page and the human book the job. See HVAC website design and the fuller money page: HVAC Local Services Ads.

LSA vs search ads vs SEO

LSA is often pay-per-lead inside Google’s screened unit. Search ads are auctions on keywords you structure with negatives. SEO is the page (and Map Pack presence) that can rank without paying per click. HVAC contractors often need a mix. The mix depends on the market, review strength, and whether you can staff the phone — not a template that says “always run everything.”

Quick channel fit (owner view)

ChannelWhat you buyFails when
Local Services AdsLeads in Google’s top unitNobody answers; reviews are thin; junk categories
Google Search AdsClicks on keyword intentOne blob campaign; weak landing; dead phone
SEOCompounding organic presenceDoorway pages; no follow-up; fake ranking promises

Disputes and “guaranteed leads” language

Agency copy that promises “guaranteed leads” is usually junk language. What matters: was it in area? Was it a real HVAC job you sell? Did your team answer and try to book? Dispute invalid leads when Google’s rules support it. Don’t confuse “I didn’t close it” with “invalid.” Closing is price, trust, and follow-up after the estimate.

Measure like an owner. Cheap LSA leads that never become trucks are still expensive. Same scoreboard I use everywhere: cost per lead vs cost per booked job.

Southeast heat changes the math

In Florida and the broader Southeast, no-cool demand spikes with the weather. LSA competition and lead volume move with it. Capacity planning matters more than “max budget” bravado. Pair emergency intent with AC not cooling ads and honest staffing. Channel comparison for paid: Facebook ads vs Google ads for HVAC.

Some shops should run LSA + Search. Some should run one. Product depth for retained Google work: Google Ads services. Search money page: HVAC Google Ads. Longer LSA vs Search write-up: LSA vs Google Search ads for HVAC.

What I’d tell another HVAC owner on a quote call

FAQ

Should every HVAC shop run Local Services Ads?
No. If reviews are weak, nobody answers, or you can’t cover the geo, fix those first — or run Search / Meta instead for now.
Is LSA better than Google Search ads?
Different tools. LSA buys the top screened unit when you qualify. Search gives keyword-level control. Many shops use both; we pick it on the call.
Do you guarantee LSA leads?
No. Guaranteed “leads” language is usually junk. We care whether the conversation can book a real job.
Can SEO replace LSA?
SEO compounds; LSA buys visibility now if you qualify. Most shops that need volume in season need paid intent plus pages that convert — and a phone that answers.
Where’s the deeper LSA page?
Money page: /hvac-local-services-ads. Service depth: /services/google-ads. This blog is the practical owner overview.
