Meta & TikTok
Stop boosting HVAC posts
The boost button is not a campaign. It’s a shortcut that feels productive. HVAC contractors use it, get junk or silence, then swear “Facebook doesn’t work.” Here’s the truth: boost is a tip jar, not a campaign.
I grew an electric and HVAC shop with my own marketing spend. Real tests, not theory. How Lead Junkie got built.
Why the boost button feels good and still fails
I’m Joey. I taught myself marketing with $750k of my own money while growing an HVAC and electric company from $2.1M to $7M. Boosting felt like “doing ads.” It wasn’t. It was paying to show a random post to a blob of people.
You don’t get forms vs messages on purpose. You don’t get a real conversion event. You don’t get the discipline of killing junk audiences. You get more of whatever the post happened to be — install selfie, lunch photo, or a vague “call us.” Homeowners don’t owe you a booked job because you paid Meta to recirculate a photo. They owe you a chance if the offer is clear and a human answers.
Boost vs a real campaign
A real campaign has an offer, a path, creative that already proved something organically, and follow-up. Full Meta path: HVAC Facebook ads and Meta Ads for HVAC. TikTok when the clip fits: TikTok Ads.
Boost button vs intentional ads
| Boost | Real Meta/TikTok campaign | |
|---|---|---|
| Objective | More of the post | Calls, messages, or site actions you chose |
| Creative | Whatever you boosted | Clips that already got comments/DMs/calls |
| Audience | Platform’s vague blob | Geo + intentional structure you can kill |
| Learning | Hard to read | You can turn losers off |
| Follow-up | Usually forgotten | CSR/owner path planned first |
Do this instead (the whole job, short)
Post organic. See what stops HVAC homeowners. Then run ads with an offer, a path (form, message, or site), and follow-up. Film the work: how to turn HVAC job videos into ads. Test on purpose: HVAC Meta creative testing. If nothing moved when the post was free, buying a bigger audience will not save it — it will just get expensive faster.
- Kill the habit of boosting every post that gets a handful of likes
- Pick forms or messages deliberately — Forms vs Messenger
- Match creative to job type (no-cool vs changeout vs membership)
- Land on a page that can convert — landing pages that don’t waste spend
- Score by booked jobs — CPL vs cost per booked job
Proof without turning my shop into your benchmark
When Joey’s shop booked 31 customers on about $1,800 Meta spend and 25 customers on about $700, that was campaigns and creative — not the boost button on a random post. Details: 31 / $1,800 · 25 / $700. Your market differs. Steal the process.

FAQ
- Is boosting ever okay for an HVAC shop?
- As a tiny test on a post that already crushed organically, maybe. As your marketing system, no. Build a real campaign.
- Why do boosted posts get junk leads?
- Because you’re optimizing for engagement on a vague audience with no offer discipline and often no follow-up plan.
- Should I boost or run Advantage+ / sales campaigns?
- Run intentional campaigns with a conversion path you can measure. Don’t outsource strategy to the boost dialog.
- Does this apply to TikTok too?
- Same idea. Promote what already worked; don’t tip the algorithm with random boosts and call it advertising.
- Will Lead Junkie set up boosts for me?
- No. We’ll talk real campaigns, creative, and whether your follow-up can handle the volume.
